第八知心意者，為求如來他心智故。前明心法，此辨心體。
Eighth, knowing the mind and thoughts: this is for seeking the Tathāgata's knowledge of the minds of others. The earlier [passages] explained mental dharmas, whereas this distinguishes the mind-essence.
