Eighth, the treasury of mindfulness; within the explanation there are three: first, clarifying mindfulness with regard to objects; second, from "the bodhisattva" onward, revealing the superior aspects of mindfulness; third, from "the bodhisattva thinks thus" onward, manifesting the aspects of benefit of mindfulness. In the first there are ten: (1) mindfulness of past lives, from one up to many; (2) mindfulness of past kalpas, from one up to many; (3) mindfulness of Buddhas, from one up to immeasurable; (4) mindfulness of a Buddha's prophecy, from one up to immeasurable; (5) mindfulness of a Buddha appearing in the world, from one up to immeasurable; (6) mindfulness of receiving sūtras from a Buddha, from one up to immeasurable—the twelve divisions of sūtras are as in the separate chapter; (7) mindfulness of preaching the Dharma in one assembly at one time, up to immeasurable; (8) mindfulness of the capacities of Dharma vessels, from one up to immeasurable; (9) mindfulness of afflictions to be cured, from one up to immeasurable; (10) mindfulness of samādhis, from one up to immeasurable. Second, revealing the superior aspects of mindfulness has ten phrases: (1) wonderful mindfulness, being wondrously superior to other people; (2) pure mindfulness, what is remembered being clear; (3) unturbid mindfulness, not mixed with dark hindrances; (4) universally pure mindfulness, being completely clear regarding phenomena; (5) dust-free mindfulness, not giving rise to craving and defilement toward the remembered matters; (6) mindfulness free from various dusts, not giving rise to other fetters; (7) taint-free mindfulness, not conceiving 'I am capable'; (8) radiant mindfulness, illuminating broadly without limit; (9) joyful mindfulness, joyfully practicing without cessation; (10) unobstructed mindfulness, knowing immediately upon generating the thought, not waiting for deliberation. Third, manifesting the benefit of mindfulness has four phrases: (1) worldly suffering does not confuse; (2) faculties are pure and undefiled; (3) mindfulness is firm and indestructible; (4) upholding the Dharma without error.
