6.40

第二法施中二：初念傷物苦、二起意饒益。前中，謂觀三世眾生，一無明所覆、二四住所纏，此具苦因；三受深苦果；四明闕正濟，謂不得佛三堅之法故也。我當下起意饒益，於中先自修佛因化他同習、二自當成佛令他同得。令淨，對前苦因；順滅，對前苦果。下結可知。

Second, under the gift of Dharma, there are two parts: first, mindfully lamenting the suffering of beings; second, generating the intention to benefit them. In the former, it means contemplating the sentient beings of the three times as, first, covered by ignorance; second, entanglingly bound by the four abiding states—these constitute the causes of suffering; third, undergoing deep fruits of suffering; fourth, lacking correct deliverance, which means not attaining the Buddha's three firm dharmas. From 'I should' onward, generating the intention to benefit them, within which first, one cultivates the Buddha-causes oneself to convert others so that they practice together; second, one will accomplish Buddhahood oneself to cause others to attain it together. 'Causing purity' corresponds to the former causes of suffering; 'conforming to cessation' corresponds to the former fruits of suffering. The concluding remarks below can be understood.
