Third, because his power of wisdom is courageous and fathoms the source of the Buddha's ocean, he is named Śūradhvaja. The ten verses are divided into two: the first seven praise the Buddha as the superior condition for practice, and the last three reveal the Buddha's virtue of mastery. In the first part, the first [verse] clarifies that the Buddha is difficult to see; one must have a pure mind of faith as the cause and the Buddha's power as the condition before being able to see the Buddha. Subtle form unites with the Buddha because he is difficult to see. Second, it clarifies that seeing him completely is difficult, meaning that one must use the vigorous wisdom of Samantabhadra to exhaust the source and depths. Third, it clarifies that the Buddha is difficult to accomplish, meaning that it must arise from the tenth bhūmi of the ocean of the completely pure mind. Fourth, it clarifies that the Buddha's Dharma is difficult to encounter; attaining it immediately removes defilement. Fifth, it clarifies that the Buddha is difficult to meet; seeing him can eliminate delusions. Sixth, it clarifies that hearing and having faith is difficult to accomplish; it must rely on a good friend. Seventh, comparative measurement reveals superiority: if one transforms one person, causing them to believe and enter the Buddha, the virtue surpasses the offerings above. In revealing the Buddha's virtues below: 1. the virtues are complete, 2. the function is vast, 3. the essence is quiescent.
