Among the spiritual friends of the eighth, the Immovable Bhūmi, within adducing the dharma to exhort cultivation: 'the light of courageous vows guarding sentient beings' is because on this bhūmi the vow pāramitā is predominant, hence it says 'courageous.' Furthermore, according to the Sanskrit text, it has the meaning of vigorous heroism, not the appearance of surging forth. Benefiting sentient beings with this light of courageous vows is called 'guarding,' teaching [Sudhana] to inquire about the eighth bhūmi's practices of purifying Buddha-lands, etc. The rest is explained as before.
