Fifth, from "There are lands" down, there are two hundred and a half verses explaining the section on the vast function without fixed locality. Because the fulfillment of faith accomplishes this stage of Bhadramukha, one is equal to Samantabhadra and others whose vast three karmas encompass both cause and effect, constantly performing the boundless great function of the dharmadhātu everywhere and at all times; this is the constant rule. Considered according to their own characteristics, they do not depend on the various stages; now, manifested within the gate of faith, they are subsumed under faith. However, the great function is boundless and difficult to expound in full; relying on convention, ten are distinguished to reveal inexhaustibility, which are the karmic functions of the ten samādhi gates: 1. the samādhi gate of the ocean-reflection with round brightness; 2. the samādhi gate of the wondrous practices of Avataṃsaka; 3. the samādhi gate of Indra's net; 4. the samādhi gate of hands producing vast offerings; 5. the samādhi gate of manifesting all Dharma gates; 6. the samādhi gate of embracing sentient beings through the four means of embracing; 7. the samādhi gate of exhausting conformity with the world; 8. the samādhi gate of the hair-pore light illuminating and awakening; 9. the samādhi gate of the host and companions adorned and magnificent; 10. the samādhi gate of quiescent function without boundary. Because the distinctions of karmic function have different domains and their capacities vary between pure and mixed according to the gates, their differences are distinguished through the samādhi gates, like the samādhi of water being everywhere and so forth. Furthermore, because it first explains the root of the great function, it first reveals the ocean-reflection, and later clarifies that function is not different from essence, so at the very end it distinguishes the unobstructedness of quiescence and function.
