17.13

Eighth, from "Immediately he himself..." onward, each recalls former causes and obtains the benefit of wisdom. Distracting conditions having ceased, supreme virtues appear before them; tranquil and free of thought, they generate the wisdom of past lives. Planting roots of goodness refers to the ten Buddhas below who once entered this palace, heard the Dharma, and made offerings. It also symbolizes seeing one's own mind-nature to be identical with the Buddhas of the past.
