Second, the separate demonstration of the names and marks is divided into four parts: (1) raising the names and inquiring about the number; (2) from "O Sons of the Buddha" onward, indicating the number and revealing its supremacy, because it is spoken in unison by all Buddhas; (3) under "What are they?" inquiring about the number and enumerating the names; (4) from "O Sons of the Buddha, these are" onward, concluding the number and citing verification. Within the third, there is first the inquiry and then the enumeration. The meaning of the ten pariṇāmanās is briefly distinguished by five gates: (1) explaining the names, (2) the doctrinal characteristics, (3) the essential nature, (4) establishing the positions, and (5) the differences among the methods of practice.
