Second, regarding the explanation of the name: the explanation in this treatise has already appeared in the fundamental section, and the present sūtra's own explanation is fully provided in the text below. Here we cite other works to establish the correct meaning. Fascicle nine of the Vijñaptimātratāsiddhi states: 'First obtaining the noble nature and fully realizing the two emptinesses, one can benefit oneself and others, giving rise to great joy. This contains three meanings: first, attaining the station; second, realizing the noumenon; third, accomplishing the practice. By virtue of these three, it is named "Utmost Joy" (pramuditā).' The seventh fascicle of the Mahāyānasaṃgraha states: 'Because here one first attains the superior virtue capable of accomplishing the benefit and welfare of self and others.' This speaks solely on the basis of the third meaning, the accomplishment of practice. The Daśabhūmika-vibhāṣā states: 'Because one initially attains the taste of Dharma, great joy arises.' This speaks solely with reference to the meaning of realizing the noumenon. Fascicle seventy-eight of the Yogācārabhūmi, citing the Saṃdhinirmocana-sūtra, states: 'Because one accomplishes great benefit and attains an unprecedented supramundane mind, great joy arises.' This relies on two meanings: the great benefit is the accomplishment of the practice of dual benefit, and the supramundane mind is the attainment of the noble station. This accords with the explanation in the fundamental section of the treatise itself.
