38.17

第二修行勝，有十一句。前四自分：一增長因行，集五度福故；二依止因行，慧為所依故。此自利福智對。三化生不疲行、四令物證滅行，此二利他因果對。後七勝進，五起佛法行、六起淨土行，此依正一對。七依佛法身起行，相好法身故；八依佛所作起行，顯三密用故，此二外相內密對。上四皆起菩提。九敬重法行，進依勝己故。上五自利，後二利他。十願取有行、十一離小乘行，即顯是揀非對。

Second, the excellence of cultivation has eleven clauses. The first four are the self-portion: 1. practice that increases the cause, because it gathers the merit of the five perfections; 2. practice of relying on the cause, because wisdom is that which is relied upon—this is the pair of merit and wisdom for self-benefit; 3. practice of not tiring in transforming sentient beings; 4. practice of causing beings to realize cessation—these two are the pair of cause and fruit for benefiting others. The latter seven are superior advancement: 5. practice of giving rise to the Buddha-dharma; 6. practice of giving rise to pure lands—this is a pair of dependent and proper [retribution]; 7. practice given rise to by relying on the Buddha's dharmakāya, because of the dharmakāya of marks and features; 8. practice given rise to by relying on what the Buddha performs, because it displays the function of the three mysteries—these two are a pair of outer marks and inner mysteries. The above four all give rise to bodhi. 9. Practice of revering the Dharma, advancing to rely upon those superior to oneself. The above five are for self-benefit, and the latter two are for benefiting others: 10. practice of vowing to assume existence; 11. practice of departing from the Hīnayāna—this is the pair of displaying the correct and setting aside the wrong.
