From here below is the second [major part], explaining the fruitions of the stage, within which there are also three fruitions. Now for the first, within the fruition of pliancy there are five: 1. pliant practice; 2. from "the wisdom of the bodhisattva of this stage..." onwards, the purity of teaching and wisdom; 3. from "Sons of the Buddha, this bodhisattva has already been able to abide..." onwards, surpassing sovereignty; 4. from "this bodhisattva's ten pāramitās..." onwards, the specific stage's marks of practice; 5. from "Sons of the Buddha, this is named..." onwards, general conclusion of the stage's name. Among the five, the first two are combined as expounding the Dharma to cause joy, as can be known; the latter three and the remaining two fruitions are all named "great excellence," to show that their meaning encompasses much. Because the Treatise continues the preceding momentum, taking them as determined fruitions, it does not repeat them. In terms of great excellence: the first three explain the excellence of supernormal powers; the second, within retributional reception, obtaining ten ineffables and so forth, is named the excellence of reckoning. These two kinds of matters surpass all stages, hence they are named "great excellence." Singling out these two is because they were explained in the gate of surpassed and unsurpassed supernormal powers. Within the first three, it first explains surpassing sovereignty, within which are three: first, reiterating the preceding; next, from "all Buddhas..." onwards, specifically revealing; afterwards, from "in brief..." onwards, general conclusion. Within the specific, the five clauses form three: the first clause is the practice of being able to sever doubts, meaning causing thorough penetration into all meanings of the path within the three times; second, one clause is the practice of swift supernormal powers, hearing the preaching of the Tathāgata's secret dharmadhātu; third, the remaining three clauses and so forth serve as auxiliary practices, meaning using the three equal paths to assist supernormal powers in transforming and benefiting [beings]. Therein, the first clause performs the equal transformation of purifying Buddha lands, which is the auxiliary path; the next clause performs the equal transformation of Dharma illumination, meaning transformation through teaching and wisdom; the last clause performs the equal transformation of sambodhi, meaning looking upon them with compassion to cause them to attain realization. Therefore the Treatise Sūtra states: "Causing all sentient beings to attain realization of the Dharma." The remaining specific stage's concluding name, the reckoning, and so forth can all be known.
