46.23

三宗趣者，智行深奧為宗，為得佛果無礙無盡為趣。然此忍行，約位即等覺後心，為斷微細無明。若約圓融，實通五位，寄終極說體即是智；不同餘宗，忍因智果雖是一智，隨義別說，二三四五等諸教不同，今此圓教故說十忍。

Third, the central theme and purport: profound wisdom-practice is the theme; attaining the unobstructed and inexhaustible Buddha-fruition is the purport. However, as for this practice of forbearance, in terms of stages it is the final mind of equal enlightenment, to sever subtle ignorance. If in terms of perfect interpenetration, it actually pervades the five stations, yet by relying on the ultimate it is explained that its essence is just wisdom. Unlike other traditions where forbearance is the cause and wisdom is the fruition, although it is a single wisdom, it is explained differently according to meaning, varying across the two, three, four, five, and other teachings; now this round teaching therefore speaks of ten forbearances.
