Next is the direct explanation of the text. Broadly divided into four: 1. stating the number and announcing; 2. interrogating the number, listing, and explaining; 3. general praise of superior abilities; 4. concluding the number and differentiating the fruit. Now for the first. Speaking of ten: 1. knowledge of others' minds; 2. divine eye; 3. knowledge of past abodes in past kalpas; 4. exhausting the kalpas of the future; 5. unobstructed pure divine ear; 6. going to all Buddha-lands without physical entity or movement; 7. skillful discernment of all speech; 8. countless form-bodies; 9. wisdom of all dharmas; 10. entering the samādhi of cessation of all dharmas. These ten are all called powers of knowledge because they all take great wisdom as their essence. If explained according to characteristics, the first eight are wisdom of quantitative knowledge and the last two are wisdom of principle; based on reality, they are solely one unobstructed great wisdom. These ten also expand the six supernormal powers, as the divine eye, divine ear, spiritual base, and destruction of defilements are each split into two. The divine eye is split into two and four based on seeing the present and the future; the divine ear is split into five and seven based on sounds and speech, which is also based on hearing holy teachings and the languages of various categories; the spiritual base is split into six and eight based on activity and form-bodies; the destruction of defilements is split into nine and ten based on wisdom and samādhi; one and three are not split, so six become ten. However, the wisdom and functions of the six supernormal powers of the Hīnayāna have limits, and those of the Three Vehicles, while level and pervasive, are still not fully exhaustive; now the wisdom and functions of the ten supernormal powers of the Ekayāna are multilayered and completely pervasive across the dharmadhātu, just like Indra's net where thoughts and kalpas perfectly interpenetrate, thus even surpassing those clarities, not to mention ordinary supernormal powers. To reveal the perfect principle, they are expanded into ten supernormal powers.
