First, as for the intention of its occurrence: now, the profound mirror is empty and luminous, transcending the realm of numbers; how could there be life spans of distinct forms, myriad shapes, long or short? Yet responding to things and according with capacities, there is nothing it cannot form and no life span it cannot have. Thus the previous chapter manifested its real virtue, while this chapter distinguishes its accord with capacities. Although it accumulates from few to many to reveal that there is no time it does not pervade, this is just one among the many virtues previously [mentioned], and so is treated roughly and broadly; it also serves to answer from afar the question on the ocean of life spans. Hence it follows.
