Ninth, the two gates beginning with the "unmoving mind" explain the practice within the station of wholesome dharmas. This gate explains being unmoved by external conditions; the subsequent gate explains not relinquishing the inner mind. Furthermore, this [gate] explains firmness of mind, while the subsequent explains deep entry—both being the meaning of power. In the first ten, the second and ninth are the power of thoughtful discrimination; the rest are all the power of cultivation and practice. In the eighth there are ten: 1. faith, because it gives birth to the fruit of buddhahood; 2. unmixed, because it is not turbid with disbelief; 3. purity, because it is without defilements; 4. because it is without subtle thoughts; 5. because it is free from the defilement of the knowable; 6. because it penetrates the source of phenomena; 7. because it tends toward the fruit station; 8. because one's own portion is firm; 9. because its virtues are inexhaustible; 10. because conditions do not move it; 11. because it directly realizes tathatā. The rest have obvious marks. Second, as for not relinquishing the profound and great mind: because of being unmoving, one can exhaust noumenon and phenomena; noumenon is profound and phenomena are vast, hence it is called profound and great. The ten clauses can be understood.
