Second, the division and combination of the number of assemblies: If analyzed by the capacities gathered, there are only three assemblies: 1. bhikṣus; 2. persons of the various yānas; 3. Sudhana's assembly. If analyzed universally by the active and passive, there are fifty-five assemblies, for Sudhana himself has fifty-three. Although there are fifty-four persons, Mañjuśrī as one person teaches in four assemblies; Deyasāra and Śrīmatī share a single dialogue; and Samantamitra has no reply and does not constitute an assembly. If one considers Samantamitra receiving what preceded and pointing to what followed as warranting the name of an assembly, then Sudhana has fifty-four assemblies. Therefore, relying solely on those capable of transforming is insufficient to determine the assemblies. If analyzed by host and companion, it forms one hundred and ten assemblies, which will be analyzed below. If analyzed by dispersed teachings, there are assemblies as numerous as dust motes of buddha-kṣetras, still conforming to the Three Vehicles. If analyzed by Samantabhadra's virtues, then there are endless assemblies, as spoken where Samantabhadra concludes and generalizes.
