第五「善男子於此」下指示後友。伊沙那者，此云長直，謂里巷徑永。表善知三際故長，善知勝義故直。婆羅門勝熱者，於五熱中成勝行故。表體煩惱熱，成勝德故不染煩惱，成淨行故。

Fifth, from "Good son, in this..." onward, he directs [Sudhana] to the subsequent friend. "Iṣāṇa" is translated here as "long and straight," referring to a long lane or path. It represents excellence in knowing the three periods of time (hence "long") and excellence in knowing the ultimate truth (hence "straight"). As for the brāhmaṇa Jayoṣmīya, it is because he perfected superior practices amid the five heats. It represents realizing the heat of afflictions so that, having perfected superior virtues, he is unstained by afflictions, thereby perfecting pure conduct.
