Second, from "he saw on its western face" downward, is seeing, paying homage, and inquiring. In seeing, there are first three points: first, seeing the supreme dependent and proper [rewards]. Abiding on the western face: because the west governs killing, it displays compassionate rescue. It also causes them to return toward the original object of service. Second, from "after Sudhana saw" downward, it displays the benefit of seeing, because he has attained supreme mindfulness that perfumes the mind. That the good spiritual friend is indeed the Tathāgata means that he leads to the ultimate and is identical to the Buddha. Third, from "at that time, Avalokiteśvara" downward, the friend deigns to praise and gather him: his great compassion is profound and weighty, according with and gathering him in. Second, from "at that time, Sudhana" downward, his reverent inquiry may be known.
