The verse text can be understood. Eleventh, the ten dharmas and ten verses of the medicine-ruling spirits: First, what accords with feeling is easy to gather in, while what opposes the mind is hard to tame; hence one contemplates them universally. The second and third can be understood. Fourth, beginners take names as true substances, whereas great beings take names as Buddha-work. Fifth, by the power of roots of goodness of compassion, emitting lights such as the moon-beloved light, both physical and mental illnesses are extinguished as soon as one is mindful [of it]. Sixth, confused about noumenon and confused about retribution, two kinds of ignorance blindly give rise to delusion and create karma, undergoing all manners of suffering; the Buddha uses the golden lancet of the true Dharma to open their eye of wisdom, enabling them to see clearly the three truths, hence it is called 'pure.' The seventh and eighth can be understood. Ninth, great compassion free from love and views generates the virtues of living beings; hence it is called a 'treasury.' Tenth, worldly physicians treat illnesses, but though cured, they arise again; for the eternal extinction [of affliction] and the generation of virtue, nothing precedes mindfulness of the Buddha; relying on illnesses and relying on lights are all expedient means. That is, the Buddha has boundless major marks, the major marks have boundless minor marks, the minor marks emit boundless lights, and the lights gather in boundless multitudes. As for 'according with mindfulness,' the Buddha's virtues are equal and uniform; according with conditions and according with delight, when one focuses on and recites [the name of] a single Buddha, samādhi is easily achieved. When devotion in one mind is profound, all the rest follows naturally. How much more so when the mind coalesces on the path of awakening and secretly treads the great realm!
