Fourth, relying on samādhi. Movement and stillness belong solely to external things; how could the sage be bound by them? Yet to provide a model for later followers and show that when one is about to preach, one must quietly contemplate the prior principle and receive the empowerment of all buddhas. Arising from absorption to utter words, one's words are bound to be true and apt. Because the words are bound to be true and apt, the minds of the recipients will naturally become sincere. Therefore, in the various assemblies, it is mostly explained that entering into absorption serves as the condition for preaching the sūtra. As for cases where absorption is not entered, this will be explained when we come to the text. The samādhis entered into all exhaust the source of dharmas, their karmic functions unthinkable.
