Fourth, from "At that time" onward is the section on manifesting signs to provide verification. When benefits are obtained, the mind rejoices; and with joy, the earth trembles and various auspicious omens appear. In other assemblies, benefits are obtained after having heard [the teaching], so the manifestation of signs comes last. Although this assembly has not yet heard it, they have already obtained benefits first, so the auspicious omens manifest first, because this assembly explains the fruit to reveal what is extraordinary. Within the text are four parts: 1. the worlds slightly tremble, and the cause of the omens is also brought forth as deriving from the two powers of cause and fruit; that they "slightly tremble" is because this is an anticipatory sign; 2. adornment with numerous jewels; 3. sounds emit preaching the Dharma; 4. the Buddha assembly rains jewels, ten kinds being briefly cited to show the inexhaustible; the first three are jewels of concrete phenomena, and the latter seven are jewels of Dharma-transformation and communication, all born from supramundane kuśala-mūla.
