Second, from 'O sons of the Buddha' onward, the earlier portents ripen the capacities [of beings], dividing into two: first, manifesting portents to ripen the capacities; second, from 'in that world' onward, seeing the portents, their capacities ripen. In the first part there are three: first, indicating the time of manifestation, namely one hundred years prior; next, from 'this mani' onward, properly revealing the auspicious signs, of which there are ten. Within this, speaking of what was practiced in previous lifetimes shows that the seeds are about to mature. Speaking of the Buddha's epithets causes them to be recollected. Speaking of the great practices and vows causes them to be cultivated and aroused. Speaking of the turning of the wheel of the Dharma causes them to listen, practice, and give rise to the Dharma eye. Finally, from 'manifesting such' onward, it concludes the purport of the portents. The second part, the ripening of capacities, can be understood.
