Second, from "Bodhisattvas, this" onward, revealing the ten directions adjacent to Sahā, which also comprise ten sections. The fact that Secret Instruction has only nine is because collation with the Jin translation reveals that under "enlightening the mind", one [instance of] "wisdom from hearing" is missing. The southern direction has only two; the old sūtra is complete, which is an omission in the new version. In accordance with the preceding and following precedents, this one alone should not be abbreviated. That the names in the northwestern direction are eleven is an excess unique to this place, not forming proper literary structure. Here, "Devoted Recollection of Dharma" should be the previously omitted "wisdom from hearing"; this is also an omission in the Sanskrit manuscript, where a commentator mistakenly placed a palm leaf. Below it says "Śakra's Bow": this is the Tathāgata's bow of mindfulness and samādhi, which with bright and sharp arrows can shoot the asuras of karma and affliction. However, the old [translation] says "Master of the Dharma Mandate", taking the meaning that Śakra commands with the teaching of Dharma as master of devas. Now saying "his bow" is merely a single matter. If it were the character for "palace", taking the person by the place, it would largely agree with the Jin translation.
