Second, the differences in chapters and assemblies: this reveals the similarities and differences between the present sūtra and the Jin translation. The present sūtra has nine assemblies; because the Jin sūtra lacked the chapter 'Ten Concentrations' at the beginning of the seventh assembly and reassembled at the Hall of Universal Light, it has only eight assemblies. The present version has thirty-nine chapters, with six chapters in the first assembly; that sūtra had only thirty-four, because the first assembly had only two chapters: first, the chapter 'Purified Eyes of the World', which is the present chapter 'Leaders of the World'; second, the chapter 'Locana', which comprises the five chapters from the present chapter 'Manifesting the Signs' onward. Since the first assembly lacked four chapters and additionally lacked the 'Ten Concentrations', it had only thirty-four chapters. The remaining chapters and assemblies are mostly the same, with minor differences in names, which will be clarified when coming to the text.
