Second, clarifying the signs of spiritual resonance in transmission: from the Jin translation of the subtle words where two boys manifested an auspicious sign, to the Tang translation of the ultimate teaching where sweet dew presented good fortune, the unseen protection was conspicuous and the imperial brush was personally applied. When the treatise was completed in the Western Regions, the earth shook and light flowed; when aspiration penetrated Mount Qingliang, spiritual resonances brought about profound awakening. When copying the sūtra, it shone with five colors and paper fragrance spread in all directions; winter mallows bloomed brilliantly, and auspicious birds held flowers in their beaks. In reading and recitation, one walked in empty space as if distant, glowing like looking into a mirror; constantly holding relics or by chance meeting spiritual monks, golden bodies emerged from the ground and ascents to the heavens halted the asura army. In contemplative practice, the unarisen was realized and verses of praise filled the sky; the sea god listened as seasonal rain poured down, and heavenly boys welcomed as great waters spread wide. In lecturing and exposition, Chinese and Sanskrit resonated together and humans and devas revered it in common; floods were stopped in their flow, and divine light entered the hall. Truly, because the wondrousness of a single text subsumes the meaning without remainder, the efficacy of a single verse can shatter hell; the water from washing the hands can still rescue living beings, and thus the merit of reading, reciting, contemplating, and cultivating equals the wisdom of all modes. What fortune from past lives to meet this scripture! Its deeds and traces are manifest and fully recorded in the biographies.
