Second is extensively analyzing the dedication of the marks of suchness in comparison with suchness. In generating this section of the text, it is briefly distinguished through five gates: 1. Explaining the name. 'Zhen' (true) means real and solid, showing it is not illusory. 'Ru' (suchness) means constantly so, indicating it is without alteration. This is the Dharma-character school (Dharmalakṣaṇa). If it is the Dharma-nature school (Dharmatā), it says that being unalterable is 'zhen' (true), and conforming to conditions is called 'ru' (suchness). Because of being unalterable, it has the meaning of being non-identical with conditioned dharmas; because of conforming to conditions, it has the meaning of being non-different from conditioned dharmas. However, the Awakening of Faith says: 'devoid of negation is called true; devoid of affirmation is called suchness,' exclusively relying on apophatic expression (pratiṣedha) to suddenly reveal the true principle.
