Fifth, the superiority of sovereign power. Within this there are two parts: first, revealing its characteristics; second, from 'O sons of the Buddha...' onward, concluding its scope. In the former there are ten clauses: the first is general, and from 'not fearing...' onward are specific. As for the general clause mentioning 'this mind': because these preceding ten minds accord with the Buddha's bodhi and are able to deeply penetrate and advance toward it. The Commentary says: 'Attaining the superiority of the power of practice of prajñāpāramitā, because one can deeply penetrate.' Thus we know that these preceding ten minds are all minds in which prajñā is present. In the specific, there are nine clauses, attaining sovereign advancement based on the above ten indestructible minds: 1. not fearing divergent doctrines, which is the power to subdue others; 2. entering upward into the stage of wisdom, which is called the power to cut off doubt, because of attaining the emptiness of phenomena; 3. the power of being unshakeable in one's own vehicle, because of departing from the Hinayāna; 4. the power of decisive faith in the secret places, advancing toward the mirror-like wisdom (ādarśa-jñāna)—the reason this and the previous two interchange positions is that these two complete each other; 5. the power of not being destroyed by Māras, because of energetic striving (vīrya); 6. the power of firmness in counteracting afflictions, because of abiding in the illumination of wisdom; 7. the power of pervasive remediation, because of possessing the three emptinesses and dwelling in existence without defilement; 8. the power of transforming sentient beings, which corresponds to the ninth, accord with skillful means, above; 9. the power of purifying the cognitive obscuration, which corresponds to the seeking of wisdom above. The wisdom before the bhūmi resides in the middle to guide the two compassions; this wisdom resides at the end to show the difference between compassion and wisdom.
