First, as for the intention of its placement: The previous chapter explained the major marks; this chapter distinguishes the secondary marks. Although the major and secondary marks are different, both serve to adorn the body, answering the earlier questions regarding the body, the eyes, and so forth, as well as sovereignty. The secondary marks exist based on the major marks, and their virtue is inferior to that of the major marks; hence they are explained next. Yet the function of this inferior virtue accomplishes sudden benefit, which inversely reveals that the virtue of the great marks is inconceivable.
