Regarding the Commentary's "sometimes compound, sometimes single": in compounds there are briefly four senses: first, title having both phenomenon and metaphor, like the Saddharmapuṇḍarīka-sūtra and so forth; second, bringing forth both person and phenomenon, like the Suvikrāntavikramiparipṛcchā-prajñāpāramitā-sūtra and so forth; third, explaining both essence and function, like the Sūtra on the Ten Abodes and Severing the Fetters and so forth; fourth, bringing forth both cause and fruit, like the Sūtra on Gradually Preparing the Virtues of All-Knowledge and so forth. Saying "or sometimes single" applies to all the above meanings: that is, single phenomenon, single metaphor, single essence, single function, single cause, single fruit. Saying "their kinds are numerous and vast" means that what has been clarified above is already numerous and vast; furthermore, there are titles taken from the time of speaking, like the Kālakāla-sūtra and so forth; or taken from the place of speaking, like the Ghanavyūha-sūtra and so forth. The above gathers the remaining meanings, hence it is said that their kinds are numerous and vast. Since they are not primary essentials, the Commentary mentions them briefly.
