17.45

疏「若準佛地論」下，第三略釋序文。於中二：先引二論開合不同、後「然信聞二事」下料揀通局。謂如是我聞，唯經初有，而義通九會，為如是法義我皆得聞。時主俱通者，會會之初皆云爾時世尊等。處眾俱局者，摩竭非忉利天等，處局。十佛剎菩薩列名異故，新舊菩薩亦不同故。

Regarding the commentary's "If one accords with the *Buddhabhūmi-śāstra*" and so forth: third is briefly explaining the text of the preface. Within this are two parts: first, citing the differences in division and combination between the two treatises; and next, following "However, the two matters of trust and hearing," discerning what is pervasive and what is restricted. That is to say: "Thus have I heard" occurs only at the beginning of the sūtra, yet its meaning pervades the nine assemblies, signifying that "all such Dharma-meanings I was able to hear." The time and the host both pervade, because the beginning of every assembly states: "At that time, the World-Honoured One..." and so forth. The location and the assembly are both restricted, because Magadha is not Trāyastriṃśa Heaven, and so forth—the location is restricted; and because the bodhisattvas of the ten Buddha-kṣetras are listed with different names, the new and old bodhisattvas are also not the same.
