Regarding the Commentary's statement, "The Treatise [on the Great Perfection of Wisdom] says that the precious gem of a wheel-turning king...," and so forth: this is found in fascicle twelve. The treatise explains that there are three kinds of precious gems: human gems, heavenly gems, and bodhisattva gems. Human gems have minor power; they possess only pure radiance and colour, remove poison, dispel demons, and banish darkness, and likewise eliminate various suffering states such as hunger, thirst, cold, and heat. Heavenly gems are both great and superior; they constantly accompany the bodies of devas, can be commanded, can also be spoken with, and are light, not heavy. A bodhisattva's gem is superior to heavenly gems: it simultaneously possesses the functions of both human and heavenly gems, and furthermore can cause all sentient beings to know the causes and conditions, root and branch, of dying here and being born there, just like a bright mirror reflecting the image of one's face.
