18.50

疏「然虛空喻有同不同」等者，上兩句標，下釋二相。先釋不同，即第五回向之文。此明佛有自利之德，不同虛空不能自利。而言等者，等取次下經文云「於一切處，令諸眾生積集善根悉充足故。」此明如來有利他之德，不同虛空。

Regarding the commentary's "However, the metaphor of empty space has similarities and dissimilarities" and so forth: the upper two lines state [the topic], and below it explains the two characteristics. First it explains the dissimilarity, which is the text of the fifth pariṇāmanā. This clarifies that the Buddha has the virtue of self-benefit, dissimilar to empty space which cannot benefit itself. And as for "and so forth": it encompasses the text of the sūtra immediately below, which says, "Because in all places, it causes all sentient beings to accumulate roots of goodness until fully satisfied." This clarifies that the Tathāgata has the virtue of benefiting others, dissimilar to empty space.
