Regarding the commentary's statement, "Comprehensively explaining the ocean of what is established in the dharmadhātu..." and so forth: here there are three explanations. The first is precisely the commentary's intention. As for saying "comprehensively explaining", it means that the ocean of worlds is spoken of solely with respect to the fruit. The ocean of the dharmadhātu's establishments applies to both cause and fruit, because arising possesses the causes and conditions that can establish the dharmadhātu. Second, "If [referring to] causes and conditions, Xianshou says it is the dharmas through which beings are transformed and produced": this is again one meaning, taking solely the dharmas of transforming and producing. Third, from "It is also the previous two..." downward is the third meaning: establishing sentient beings and worlds; therefore, the "previous two" are precisely the ocean of worlds and the ocean of sentient beings. Therein, first it is directly elucidated, and afterward established. However, under the word "establishment", Sanskrit texts are cited as evidence; this is evidence cited by Xianshou. The "modes of dharma" of the latter two meanings are precisely the dharmas through which beings are transformed and produced; "establishment" is precisely the third meaning; hence the conclusion states that these are precisely the modes of dharma for establishment. Fourth, "The ocean of Buddhas refers to the 'Inconceivable' and other chapters": "and other" includes the Ocean of Marks and the Secondary Marks, which are all the marks and functions of the Buddha's virtues, because they pertain to wondrous awakening. Fifth, "The ocean of the Buddha's pāramitās refers to the chapter 'Detachment from the World'": because in the two thousand practices, each and every one reaches the other shore. Sixth, "As in the 'Entry into the Dharmadhātu' chapter": because the Buddha personally realizes and enters into the liberation free from obstacles, and because the great functions are all liberations. Seventh, referring to the "Asaṃkhyeya [chapter]": because the verses of the Asaṃkhyeya extensively reveal the manifold, inexhaustible, vast functions of the Buddha's virtues. "And other" equals the passages of transformations throughout the entire sūtra.
