Regarding the commentary's statement, "Namely, the dharmakāya is formless, manifesting shapes in response to beings": citing as evidence, these words are precisely from the *Zhaolun*. The treatise states: "The dharmakāya is formless, manifesting shapes in response to beings. Prajñā is devoid of knowing, illuminating in confrontation with conditions." If one considers its ultimate source, it is the sūtra which states: "The Buddha's true dharmakāya is like empty space, manifesting shapes in response to beings like the moon in the water." A later passage of the sūtra also says: "The Buddha takes the Dharma as body, pure like empty space; the shapes of various forms manifested cause [beings] to enter into this Dharma."
