Regarding the commentary's "Therefore, the Benevolent Kings Sūtra states: 'the last three grounds,'" and so forth: in the "Chapter on Teaching and Transforming," the eighth is named the Equal Contemplation Bodhisattva, and the verse says: "The Equal Contemplation Bodhisattva is the king of the second dhyāna, / With a transformation dharmakāya of immeasurable light," and so forth. For the ninth ground, it says: "The Wise Light Bodhisattva is the king of the third dhyāna"; for the tenth ground, it says: "The Consecrated Bodhisattva is the king of the fourth dhyāna." Later, it summarizes the above three grounds in verse, saying: "The three classes of masters of Equal, Wise, and Consecrated / Eradicate the prior and eradicate the habit-energies of the condition of avidyā; / The habit-characteristics of avidyā are the defilements, / When the principle of the two truths is exhausted, all are ended." Explanation: Since it summarizes the three grounds as eradicating the habit-energies of avidyā, the commentary says they jointly dispel avidyā. The phrase from "it is not the ground of consecration" onward explains that sūtra in terms of its meaning. That sūtra's ground of consecration naturally corresponds to the tenth; hence it is called "not the ground of consecration." Yet the tenth ground also uses the effortless wisdom that exhausts the habit-energies of avidyā to attain consecration; hence it is called "this is the wisdom of consecration."
