Regarding the commentary's statement, "First, provisionally bestowing what is devoid of reality": this is like speaking of the three carts outside the gate, which refers to the provisional teaching of the three vehicles. Originally there are no three vehicles, yet they are spoken of as existing; pointing falsely to the three carts, which are not obtained upon leaving the gate, is what this refers to. "Second, the principle is originally beyond words": this is also like the Lotus Sūtra saying, "The quiescent and extinguished characteristics of all phenomena cannot be expressed in words. By the power of upāya, they were spoken to the five monks." "Third, unimpeded integration of the provisional and real": this refers to engaging with existence without ever being deluded about emptiness, and contemplating emptiness without abandoning concrete matters; this means that the Tathāgata's pāramitā of upāya and knowledge-and-vision is already complete. The chapter "Vairocana" concludes.
