28.6

疏「表德為號」，亦有釋云：表德為字，響頒人天曰號。今以即字是號，猶如十號皆約德故。言「名別號通」者，總相說耳。「品中正說」下，揀定通局，可知。

Regarding the commentary's statement, "Expressing virtue is an epithet (hào)": there is also an explanation stating that expressing virtue is a style name (zì), while resounding throughout humanity and heaven is called an epithet (hào). Here, the style name is identical to the epithet, just as the ten epithets are all based on virtue. Speaking of "names being distinct and epithets being shared": this is merely stated in terms of general characteristics. From "What is properly expounded in this chapter" downward, it selects and determines the shared and specific, which can be known.
