Regarding the commentary's "a wax seal stamping clay": this will be extensively explained below based on fascicle twenty-nine of the Nirvāṇa [Sūtra]. The commentary's text immediately below is that sūtra's passage, which shall now be briefly cited. The sūtra says: "Good sons! Just as when the sun sinks toward the mountains, hills, mounds, and knolls, their shadows shift eastward and by principle cannot travel west; the karmic retributions of sentient beings are also like this: when this aggregate ceases, that aggregate continues to arise, like darkness disappearing when a lamp is lit, and darkness arising when the lamp is extinguished. Good sons! Just as when a wax seal stamps clay, seal and clay join together, and as the seal is destroyed the impression is formed, yet that wax seal does not transform to remain within the clay; the impression does not come out of the clay, nor does it come from elsewhere, but because of the condition of the seal this impression is produced. When the present aggregates perish and the intermediate existence aggregate arises, these present aggregates never transform into the five aggregates of the intermediate existence, nor do the five aggregates of the intermediate existence arise of themselves or come from elsewhere; due to the present aggregates, the intermediate existence aggregates arise. Just as when a wax seal stamps clay, the seal is destroyed and the impression formed; though their names do not differ, their periods of time are distinct." Explanation: The meaning will be expounded below; the present intent lies simply in breaking the seal. The aggregates are suffering; if one realizes the principle of cessation, the present aggregates do not become a cause for the future, and because the subsequent aggregates do not arise, this is the breaking of the seal.
