Fifth, explaining the text. Regarding the commentary's "The Treatise [on the Great Perfection of Wisdom] says: emitted from beneath the feet": the body finds a place to stand, hence it is said to be from the feet. This is in the ninth fascicle of the treatise, explaining the sūtra's emitting six hundred trillion rays of light from the thousand-spoked wheel marks beneath the feet, signifying the preaching of the six pāramitās. There are two meanings: this is the first meaning. The second meaning says: furthermore, within a single body, although the head is noble and the feet are lowly, the Buddha does not hold light as noble for himself nor does he do it for gain and offerings; therefore he emits light from a lowly place. That text was in terms of doctrinal characteristics, hence making this explanation; the present text is in terms of symbolism, so it does not directly employ that, which is subsumed under the second [point] of being the most humble.
