31.23

第二覺首答。疏「今初意云：特由從緣種種故不相知」下，疏文有三：初總顯偈意、二「即此偈上半」下別示義理、三「言諸法」下委釋經文。二中亦三：初以因明立量示、二以緣起相由示、三結示緣起深旨。今初，懸指後四以為同喻，則此偈中但有宗因，可知。

Second, the answer of Jñānaprabha. Regarding the Commentary's passage from “Now the initial intention is: it is precisely because they arise from conditions in diverse ways that they do not know each other” onward, the text of the Commentary has three parts: first, it generally reveals the intention of the verse; second, from “That is, the upper half of this verse” onward, it specifically indicates the doctrinal principle; third, from “The phrase ‘all dharmas’” onward, it exhaustively explains the sūtra text. Within the second part, there are also three: first, it indicates by setting up a syllogism (prayoga) using Buddhist logic (hetuvidyā); second, it indicates through the mutual reliance of dependent origination; third, it concludes by indicating the profound import of dependent origination. Now, for the first, it points ahead to the latter four [verses] as the homogeneous examples (dṛṣṭānta), so in this verse there are only the thesis (pratijñā) and the reason (hetu), as can be understood.
