32.25

疏「第八又為諸識通依」者，即根本依也。言諸識者，識不一故。唯七識心所等法皆依此故，直就第七名染污根。若為六依，則通染淨，故云為染淨依。

Regarding the commentary's statement, "The eighth is also the universal reliance for all consciousnesses," this is the fundamental reliance. As for "all consciousnesses," it is because the consciousnesses are not singular. Since only the mental factors and other dharmas of the seventh consciousness all rely on this, looking directly at the seventh, it is named the defiled faculty. If it serves as the reliance for the sixth, it encompasses both defilement and purity; hence it is said to be the defiled-pure reliance.
