「初來意」，有三：初一通對前後辨來，謂欲成妙位是後十住故，前品明解即是對前。二「又前明入理」下，此及第三俱是對前二，即以行對行，但理事不同。三即以願對行，則二品全別故，前品具解行二義，此品具行願二義故。

"First, the purpose of coming" has three parts: the first comprehensively contrasts the preceding and succeeding to determine the purpose, meaning that desiring to accomplish the wondrous stages refers to the subsequent Ten Abodes, so the preceding chapter clarifying understanding is precisely in contrast to what precedes. Second, from "Furthermore, the preceding clarified entering principle" downward, this and the third both contrast with the preceding two, that is, matching practice against practice, though principle and phenomena differ. Third, matching vows against practice, the two chapters are completely distinct, because the preceding chapter possesses both meanings of understanding and practice, while this chapter possesses both meanings of practice and vow.
