37.6

疏「若以智慧為佛性者，即是了因」者，結成上義，生下五蘊是正是生，不得名了。五蘊名生者，能生諸法，故名生因。今因五蘊能得菩提，豈非生因？如乳生酪、如穀生芽，皆生因故。

Regarding the Commentary's statement, "If one takes wisdom to be Buddha-nature, it is the revealing cause": this concludes the above meaning and introduces the point below that the five aggregates are primary and generative, and cannot be called revealing. That the five aggregates are called generative means that they can generate all dharmas, and are thus called generative causes. Now, since by relying on the five aggregates one can attain bodhi, how could they not be generative causes? Just as milk generates curd, and as grain generates sprouts, both are generative causes.
