In the commentary, from "therefore the Āmradārikā-sūtra" downward: this is the second part, citing proofs. It cites three passages, each having a distinct import. First, citing the Āmradārikā-sūtra, it explains arising and ceasing and non-arising and non-ceasing as interwoven. Thus in that sūtra: "Mañjuśrī said: 'If one knows that all dharmas ultimately arise and cease, mutate without fixity like an illusion, and is able to speak accordingly as appropriate, this is the meaning of permanence, because dharmas arising do not obtain arising of themselves, and ceasing do not obtain ceasing of themselves. What is impermanence? If one knows that all dharmas ultimately do not arise and do not cease, and in accordance with such a mark is able to speak accordingly as appropriate, this is the meaning of impermanence, because dharmas change freely without fixity; clarifying that they do not obtain [arising and ceasing] of themselves, one who knows in this way speaks of it as the meaning of impermanence.'" Explanation: This intent precisely reveals that nature and marks interpenetrate and the two meanings accomplish each other. When marks of arising and ceasing are exhausted, impermanence is permanence; hence, non-arising and non-ceasing is the meaning of impermanence. Changing according to conditions, permanence is impermanence; thus, arising and ceasing is the meaning of permanence. Furthermore, because nature is marks, non-arising and non-ceasing is the meaning of impermanence; because marks are nature, arising and ceasing is the meaning of permanence. When mutually negating, both are refuted; when mutually establishing, both stand. Entering nirvāṇa between the twin trees has precisely this meaning. The meaning of double negation will be explained immediately below.
