38.40

疏「偈云聽聞乃一義耳」者，恐人引下文為難。下文云「一切諸法皆無相無體、性空無實、如幻如夢，離分別。」常樂聽聞如是義，故云聽聞是一義耳。理實應須思修無相無體等法耳。

Regarding the commentary's: "The verse says 'listening and hearing' as merely one meaning," this is for fear that someone might cite the text below to raise an objection. The text below says: "All dharmas are without characteristics and without essence, their natures empty and devoid of reality, like illusions and dreams, free from conceptual discrimination." One constantly delights in listening to and hearing such meanings; therefore it is said that "listening and hearing" is merely one meaning. In truth, according to principle, one must contemplate and cultivate dharmas that are without characteristics, without essence, and so forth.
