38.59

疏「頓悟菩薩」者，此法性宗。若法相宗，頓悟八地方受變易。漸悟菩薩地前許受變易者，此法性宗。若法相宗，漸悟初地許受變易。變易是一，故開則為二。意生身者，如〈迴向〉說。

Regarding the commentary's mention of "sudden-awakening bodhisattvas": this belongs to the Faxing school. According to the Faxiang school, sudden-awakening bodhisattvas undergo the transformation-body only upon reaching the eighth bhūmi. That gradual-awakening bodhisattvas are permitted to undergo the transformation-body before the bhūmis belongs to the Faxing school. According to the Faxiang school, gradual-awakening bodhisattvas are permitted to undergo the transformation-body upon the first bhūmi. The transformation-body is singular, so it is bifurcated when unfolded. As for the mind-made body, it is as explained in [the chapter on] 'Pariṇāmanā'.
