38.66

疏「六知法師軌儀」者，即口業成就中具說之德故。經云「為大法師，具法師行。」論說「二十法師」是。「七知所化處」者，即法師自在成就中說成就。經云「處於法座，為演說法。於大千世界滿中眾生，隨其心樂，差別為說。」是也。「八知化時」等者，亦即說成就。亦最初經云「住此地已，了知眾生諸行差別，教化調伏，令得解脫」等。

Regarding the commentary's statement, "Sixth, knowing the deportment of a Dharma-master": this refers to the virtues of fully expounding among the accomplishments of vocal karma. The sūtra states: "Acting as a great Dharma-master, fully possessing the conduct of a Dharma-master." The treatise's mention of the "twenty Dharma-masters" refers to this. "Seventh, knowing the place to transform [beings]": this refers to the accomplishment of expounding within the Dharma-master's accomplishment of mastery. The sūtra states: "Sitting upon the Dharma seat, expounding the Dharma for them. For sentient beings filling the great trichiliocosm, expounding distinctly in accordance with their mental inclinations"; this is it. "Eighth, knowing the time to transform", and so forth, is also the accomplishment of expounding. It also refers to what the sūtra states at the very beginning: "Having abided on this ground, fully knowing the distinct actions of sentient beings, teaching and taming them to bring about their liberation", and so forth.
