In the commentary's "Eighth, contemplating the Dharma", there are three parts: first, a general explanation of the intent; second, from "However, dharma has..." downwards, the explanation of the text. The phrase "meaning unwholesome states do not arise" means that, in terms of principle, dharmas originally do not arise, and in terms of practice, there are no unwholesome states that can arise. The *Vimalakīrtinirdeśa-sūtra* states, "Unwholesome states do not arise, and wholesome dharmas do not cease." The rest of the meaning can be known. From "These six..." downwards is in terms of the fruit. Third, from "Now investigating..." downwards, it subsequently explains the characteristics of contemplation, which also refutes through the approaches of identity and difference, and causes and conditions. From "If by non-combination..." downwards, it wards off an attempt at salvage. The salvage attempt states: Precisely this non-combination is the true Dharma! Hence it now answers: How could it be existent? Subsequently, from "Furthermore, this raising of..." downwards, it clarifies the intention based on the text.
