Regarding the commentary's "The essence is complete and virtues are fulfilled," and so forth: This explains the luminous pearl of cognition. Here there are two meanings: First, directly in terms of cognition: "The essence is complete" above reveals that it is complete cognition, which is the nature of cognition; "virtues are fulfilled" means that it can accomplish all virtues, which is the mark of cognition; "penetrating illumination" means brightly illuminating without omission; "delusion eliminated" means that the cognitive obscurations are exhausted. These briefly cite the four virtues of the pearl. Second, blending principle and cognition to form the three virtues of nirvāṇa: first, "essence is complete" is the dharmakāya; second, "penetrating illumination" is prajñā; third, "delusion eliminated" is the virtue of abandonment. The virtue of liberation being fulfilled pervades all three virtues. It also pertains distinctively to the dharmakāya; only when possessing all three virtues is it called complete cognition.
