56.20

第二正申偈中，疏「今初正顯地智微妙之相」下，疏文有三：初定所顯之法；二「於中論經」下，略會論經；三「言微妙者」下，牒文解釋。今初，以遠公意明初三偈半顯佛法微妙，後有三偈舉彼佛法顯地出言。故今揀之，明初三偈半亦是顯於地智微妙，非說佛果。於中三：初總標是地智、二引證、三結彈。

In the second [section], directly stating the verses, under the commentary's "Now first, directly displaying the subtle and wondrous characteristics of the stage-cognition" and so forth, the commentary has three parts: first, determining the dharma to be displayed; second, from "Within this, the śāstra-sūtra" down, briefly harmonizing the śāstra-sūtra; third, from "As for 'subtle and wondrous'" down, taking up the text to explain it. Now, the first: according to Master Yuan's idea, the first three and a half verses display the subtlety and wondrousness of the Buddha-dharma, while the subsequent three verses present that Buddha-dharma to display the stage's transcendence of speech. Therefore, we now distinguish this, clarifying that the first three and a half verses also display the subtlety and wondrousness of the stage-cognition, and do not speak of the Buddha fruition. Here there are three parts: first, generally identifying it as the stage-cognition; second, citing proof; third, concluding with a critique.
